A positive, alcohol-free Schoolies alternative that's backed by experts.
It’s about time right? Schoolies Unearthed was born out of frequent requests from students, schools and parents to offer an alternative to your typical party week in the Gold Coast. As the face of Schoolies continues to change here in Australia, we are proud to be at the forefront of providing meaningful and fun alternatives for graduates that want to do things a little differently.
Schoolies Unearthed is a program run by student travel experts Antipodeans. Our operations team is the best in the industry, with 27 years of experience in managing groups of young people in developing countries. Being independently owned and locally operated means all planning, operations and emergency procedures are overseen by our Australian head office.
We’re for those who want to step outside their comfort zones and celebrate the next stage of their life in a truly positive way. We’re for those who want to make a real impact. We hope you are too.
We get it
Heart beating a little faster? We understand. Sending not-so-little ones abroad can give even the most relaxed parents a sinking feeling in the pit of the stomach. We know because we’ve been through it with our own kids. We understand how big a decision it is. Safety is a big concern, but it’s not the only thing us parents have to worry about. Practical issues, such as finances, can also invite us to re-evaluate how worthwhile something like this is for your child. We’ve included information below to help talk about those concerns. If you’d rather contact us to discuss, we’re always here. Just ring us on 1800 502 014 or email us with your questions. You can also check out our list of FAQs for parents.
Who's in my child's team?
Your child can sign up individually, with a friend, or through their school. If you child chooses to sign up on their own, you can be rest assured they will be placed in a team of likeminded graduates from around Australia and New Zealand! Meeting people with a similar outlook on the world is refreshing for many travellers, and the trip is a chance for them to form bonds and friendships that last a lifetime. All Schoolies Unearthed travellers are 17-19 years of age, and are always accompanied by two trained, adult Leaders.
"My daughter did the Schoolies Unearthed Borneo trip and she had the time of her life. She learned so much about life and herself, she met beautiful people, went to amazing places and learned new skills. As a mother, I was scared when she said she wanted to go but I'm so glad she did. It was the perfect way for her to spread her wings!"
Nicole Johnstone, Parent
Costs and fundraising
Schoolies Unearthed is all-inclusive, meaning for all 10 or 12-days we’ve got costs covered (that includes flights and comprehensive travel insurance). We’ve done our best to keep the price achievable for all travellers, and considering many typical schoolies weeks in the Gold Coast will end up costing upwards of $5,000, we think we’ve done just that.
Prior to departure, we provide all our travellers with ‘FundMyTrip’ advice and support, should they wish to raise funds towards the cost of their trip. We also have extremely flexible payment plans, with options to pay off the trip slowly in weekly, fortnightly, or monthly instalments - it's up to you. You can read more about fundraising ideas and payment plans here. Below is a breakdown of where your money goes:
Goes to preparation.
The key to your child’s safety is preparation. From researching their trek route to ensuring accommodation and transport are appropriate, we do what it takes.
Goes to safety measures.
When it’s go time, we make sure your child is covered and contactable at all times. This is a huge priority for us. We employ the very best insurance policies and risk management team, in the unlikely circumstance something should go wrong.
On top of that, Schoolies Unearthed boasts professional leaders, comprehensive medical kits, live tracking with GPS and a support centre that’s staffed 24/7. We never sleep, so you can.
Goes to trip costs.
These are meals, accommodation, flights, taxes, water, transport and additional costs like entrance fees to National Parks when trekking. Our costs cover everything but visas and vaccinations.
"What did I learn in Borneo? That I can achieve so much more than I thought I could. That I can step outside my comfort zone. That I'm actually ready for Uni. But most of all, that I can throw some serious dance moves in the middle of the jungle."
Sarah Connelly, Borneo.
