Hanoi To Ha Long Bay Odyssey
Ever dreamed of spending Schoolies in Vietnam? Now's the chance you've been waiting for. Colourful, chaotic and buzzing 24-hours a day, Vietnam has forever topped the list of places to visit in South East Asia (and it's pretty easy to see why). From the lush green valleys and rolling hills of Mai Chau to the sparkling coastline of Ha Long Bay, Vietnam has something for every type of traveller - whether you’re a serious foodie, thrillseeker, photography fan, culture vulture, or all of the above.
Enjoy a bowl of steaming hot pho or cup of sweet coffee while watching the crazy street life go by in Hanoi. Take in the ridiculous views of Ha Long Bay, rising early for sunrise and a spot of yoga on the top deck. Immerse yourself in village life, making sure to sharpen your skipping skills with the local kids. Yep, a Schoolies week in Vietnam is something we can guarantee you'll be talking about for many years to come.
Your Schoolies Unearthed volunteering projects in Vietnam will be based in village communities in the Mai Chau region, a few hours out of the capital of Hanoi. Get involved with important development work including the building and renovation of classrooms, kitchens, installing water tanks and building play areas, all whilst having a blast and interacting with the local kids in your down time. Your Leader will guide you on day-to-day tasks and ensure all your hard work is truly benefiting the local community.
In the evenings you’ll eat and relax in traditional Vietnamese stilt houses, sharing meals with your new local family, playing games and even putting on a sweet-as performance on your last night in town. Bring your dancing skills - you’ll only have one go to show the locals what you’re made of!
The World You'll Explore
Soak up the sights and crazy night markets of Hanoi, with its famous Old Quarter, lively cafes and bustling shopping streets (there's an entire street dedicated to shoes - no joke). The food in Hanoi will have you literally rolling your way home. Get stuck right into some crispy golden savoury pancakes, beef pho, rice paper rolls.... man we could go on and on. Thirsty? Wash it all down with some sweet Vietnamese coffee made with condensed milk. It's an absolute must..
From Hanoi, it's time to hit the coast. Relax, unwind, chill. How? Let's grab a boat and sail around the 3300 limestone islands that make up the world heritage site of Ha Long Bay. So awesome, you can kayak to a remote beach, do some yoga on the top deck and even drag your doona up to sleep under the stars. Bucket list - tick
During your time in Hanoi, travellers may be staying in funky little city centre hotels, 2-3 people to a room. At the community project, you'll rest up after a fun day's work in a traditional Vietnamese house, many of which are wooden houses built high up on stilts. There's usually one large long room, and you'll be sleeping on traditional, comfy sleeping mats, with fresh sheets, blankets and pillows all provided. For your overnight cruise through Ha Long Bay, your accomodation will be on your group's very own private junk boat. Dorms sleep 2-3 people in comfy beds, and rooms usually have their own en-suite bathrooms. Wake up in the morning to stunning views across Ha Long Bay, right from your bed.
